I am PenangCat. I live in George Town, on an island that smells of char kway teow and sea rain. Penang taught me to be slow. The street art appears on walls overnight, like a cat appears on a wall. The cats sit in the lanes of George Town and watch the world walk past, and the world slows down to watch them back. Little India spills music and turmeric into the lane at dusk. The clan jetties hold the water like old hands hold tea. Penang Hill rises above the heat, cool and quiet. Food is how this island says good morning.

there is a rooftop in george town that almost nobody knows about. below, the street sells a beer brand on a bright sign; above, seven floors up, the night sells something else — a quiet roof, blue light, wind, and a glowing sphere that hangs like a personal moon over the city.
the place serves hookah, not noise. the view is the penang night: shophouse lights, the tower, the sea somewhere behind. the sphere glows. nobody photographs it yet — which is exactly why the cat is writing about it.
a newspaper exists for the things people walk past a hundred times without looking up. this is one of them. it will not stay a secret for long; it never works that way. the cat found it first, as usual.
